The future king was baptized in the Romanesque chapel of São Miguel outside the castle gates and close to the Ducal Palace.

TOUR SUGGESTION – 16th JUNE

TOUR TO AVEIRO REGION – Full day

Departure from Porto heading to Aveiro, situated at the south of Porto, famous for its river branch and an important urban center, with its docks, railway, university and tourism.

The first stop will be at lhavo - typically village of fishermen - for a visit to the museum and to the factory of Porcelain from Vista Alegre. Here we can observe the historical evolution of the porcelain in the last two centuries and admire the representative pieces of the ceramics and glass since its creation till nowadays. We continue our little panoramical Tour through the peninsula which is between the river branch (Ria Aveiro) and the sea, which has the name of Costa Nova, famous for its houses with colourful stripes which origins are from the first wooden fishermen’s houses. Stop for lunch. After lunch, visit to the town of Aveiro, capital of the District and second largest town in the center.

Aveiro is known as the “Portuguese Venice” , famous for its salines and for its delicious ovos-moles (mixture of syrup and egg yolks). Short walking visit through the historical center and Rossio, before going aboard the Barco Moliceiro for a pleasant trip (about 50 minutes) in the internal channels of the Aveiro’s river branch. The Moliceiro is the name given to the local boats. They are a type of boats traditionally used to gather seaweed or slime - which was used in the agriculture to fertilize the lands - but nowadays they are used for touristical purposes. These boats are very elegant, which are normally decorated with paintings that criticize the daily situations. After this trip, free time before the departure to Porto. Return to the hotels.
